![]() That’s quite a feat, given just how powerful the Hulk is in the Marvel universe. Using this power he became so strong that not even the Hulk could overpower him. Even before he got his hands on the gauntlet and started gaining power from the infinity stones, Thanos was a citizen of Titan, and in the comics, he used his intricate knowledge of science to enhance his natural body, as well as augment his power overall. Thanos is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Why would Thanos not use his gauntlet to simply save his destroyed world, if peace was his true motivation? ![]() While his methods are truly evil, the trauma and emotional toll of watching his planet fall must have had tremendous psychological trauma on him. He vowed not to allow that to happen again, and that is why he goes on his quest for the infinity stones. His vision of the future came true, and he witnessed his planet’s destruction. He saw his homeward of Titan quickly falling as resources became scarce, and yet the government failed to use his idea to wipe out half of the planet’s population. It was he that destroyed Titan, and yet, in the new Avengers film, Thanos is given a much different backstory. However, his father A’Lars saved him, and he went on to become fascinated with demise as a young kid. His mother believed he would go on to annihilate half the universe, and tried to end his life as an infant. Being the son of Eternals Mentor and Sui-San, Thanos carried half of his genetic markers from a race known as the Deviants. It housed a great civilization, but Thanos was born different than the other children. Titan was originally the actual moon of Saturn in our solar system. One of the crucial aspects of Thanos as a character is his homeward of Titan. He does what he does out of a misguided love for the universe. He truly believes in his cause, which makes him far more dangerous and less cold-hearted than his comic book counterpart. He works to save the MCU by snuffing out half of the universe, thinking this is a mercy to some while those left behind are able to maintain the resources needed to survive. Yet, in the new film, we get a much more humanized Thanos, in that he is given a more profound if not misguided and evil motivation. He goes into this war because he wants to snuff out half of all life in the universe as a gift to Mistress Death, in an effort to prove his worth to her. She is the one who seeks balance to life and demise in the Marvel universe, but Thanos cares nothing for balance. Not the concept of mortality, but the physical embodiment of death, Mistress Death. You see, longtime comic fans will know this, but newcomers should know that Thanos embarks on this mission to find the Infinity Stones or Gems because he has fallen in love with demise. Okay, well today let’s start with the motivation for Thanos in Infinity War. This is where the spoilers from Infinity War start to trickle in. Do not read further if you don’t want to be spoiled. The comics alone feature the mad titan in some pretty strange circumstances, and his actions don’t always make the most sense. Thanos is considered the ultimate Marvel villain, and his presence in the recently released Marvel Studios film Avengers: Infinity War is felt heavily throughout the MCU. He is as strong as the Hulk, a master tactician, and uses fear to control those who serve him. He seeks the Infinity Stones, (the Infinity Gems in the comics), and hopes to use each stone’s power to help him rewrite reality and snuff out half the life in the universe. While his motivations have changed in recent years, Thanos ultimate goal has been constant from his inception all the way to the recent film appearances of the character. A long-running foe of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, aka The Avengers, the big purple giant is a cosmic being of great power.
